Travelers Championship 2016 Betting Preview

Webb Simpson (ew)Tournament Winner40/1Paddy Power
Brendan Steele (ew)Tournament Winner55/1Bet365
Ryan Moore (ew)Tournament Winner66/1Paddy Power

The TPC River Highlands course may only be a short par-70 at 6,844 yards but it has favoured the long hitters over the years, with Hunter Mahan, Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson among the notable former champions, with Watson defeating Paul Casey in a play-off to claim the title for a second time in 2015. This event is traditionally well-attended, with only the Phoenix Open drawing bigger crowds. The course winds through woodland, skirting plenty of water hazards, with the final four holes all playing around a four-acre lake to make for a dramatic finish.

Watson returns to attempt to complete a hat-trick of victories and is available at 14/1 with Stan James who are offering 6 places for each-way bets on the Travelers Championship 2016. Next up is Brooks Koepka at 16/1 with Bet365 following his top-five at the US PGA Championship at the weekend, while Branden Grace – who also went close at Baltusrol – can be backed at 18/1 with Stan James. Matt Kuchar and Patrick Reed are 22/1 chances before they head off to Brazil for the Olympics.

Webb SimpsonWEBB SIMPSON, who was second in the FedEx Cup race in 2011 and won the US Open the following year, has to a large extent lost his way over the last couple of seasons. But the signs are there in recent months that a fifth career victory could be on the cards with third and sixth placed finishes on the PGA Tour, followed by 13th at Baltusrol on Sunday. He is 40/1 at Paddy Power with 7 places for each-way bets.

BRENDAN STEELEBRENDAN STEELE was having a fairly good season until missing the cuts at both the Open and the US PGA Championship and he will be looking to return to the kind of form that brought him a top five finish at the Barracuda event in Nevada a week before his trip to Royal Troon. Steele has done well at the Travelers in the last three years, finishing 13th, 5th and 25th and so he looks a good each-way chance at the best odds of 55/1 with Bet365.

Ryan PalmerRYAN MOORE‘s season went somewhat off the rails in April, with the Masters being the first of 3 events at which he missed the cut. Things had begun well, with five top 10s in the first half of the year and he’s now back on track, making the cut on his last 4 outings. That gives him a platform to perform at River Highlands, where he has finished no worse than 13th on 5 of his last 6 visits. Paddy Power‘s price of 66/1 is very appealing.
