Donald Trump remains on course for a second term in the White House following the American mid-term elections, with the bookmakers retaining him as the market leader for the 2020 US Presidential vote.
After a controversial first two years in office, Trump’s Republican Party strengthened its grip on the senate but lost control of the lower House of Representatives. That will make things easier for the Democrats to frustrate some of his policies, but doesn’t damage his overall standing and his price in the betting market has remained stable for some time. Bet365, BetVictor, Betfred, Paddy Power and William Hill are all offering 6/4* that Trump wins a second term.
It remains to be seen who will stand against Trump for the Democrats in two years’ time, with the current favourite being Californian senator Kamala Harris, at 8/1* with Ladbrokes, Paddy Power and Betfred. The rising star of the Democrats, however, is Beto O’Rourke, who came close to the unlikely feat of unseating Ted Cruz in Texas. The 46-year-old was a 50/1 chance as recently as September, but is now a best price of only 12/1* with Ladbrokes after an eye-catching campaign.
