Michael Van Gerwen is the firm favourite to win the 2018 Premier League Darts title ahead of the play-offs, which take place at London’s O2 Arena on Thursday night. Van Gerwen, who takes on world champion Rob Cross in the first semi-final, is a best price of 8/15 with Ladbrokes to claim his fourth title and his third in succession.
The Dutch master topped the standings in the league phase and all the statistics point to victory for the world no.1, who won 11 of his 16 matches and was the only player to have a three-dart average in excess of 100. He dominated Cross twice in the regular season, winning each match 7-2, while he defeated Michael Smith twice for the loss of a total of just three legs. Only Smith’s semi-final opponent, Gary Anderson, recorded a victory over Van Gerwen, beating him 7-5 in the final round of matches. The two-time world champion is the second favourite, priced at 7/2 across the board, with Smith the outsider at 14/1 with BetVictor despite finishing in second place and losing only six legs more than Van Gerwen across his 16 matches.
