While all the attention has been fixed on the World Cup this summer, clubs in the Football League have been taking care of the usual business of rebuilding their squads, and Notts County’s signing of midfielder David Vaughan following his release from neighbours Nottingham Forest has caught the eye of some astute punters.
The 35-year-old former Wales international was wanted by a number of League One clubs, but Magpies boss Kevin Nolan was successful in persuading him to remain in the city and become the fulcrum of their renewed League Two promotion bid. Notts missed out in the play-offs last season having finished in sixth place, an achievement that was largely down to a strong home record. Vaughan’s creativity and experience in midfield should give them something extra for the new season and Coral and BetVictor have both now cut their title and promotion odds. William Hill are now offering the best price in each market, with Notts the 8/1* second favourites to win the title or at 9/4* to be promoted.
