Lewis Hamilton remains the marginal favourite to win the Formula One Drivers Championship despite losing his lead to Sebastian Vettel, after the Ferrari driver led from the front to claim victory at the Canadian Grand Prix. It’s a race that Hamilton has dominated over the years, winning six times, but having started fourth on the grid he could only manage a fifth place finish, allowing Vettel to wipe out his 14-point lead at the top of the standings and move ahead by one.
After a dramatic first lap crash involving Lance Stroll and Brendan Hartley sparked the introduction of the safety car, Hamilton reported power problems that left him playing catch-up for the remainder of the race and unable to mount a realistic challenge to Vettel.
The German now has three race wins to Hamilton’s two from the first seven Grand Prix of the season and the momentum certainly appears to have swung his way. Next up is the French Grand Prix on June 24th, with the race having been reinstated to the calendar after a 10-year absence.
