Warrington are the 2/5* favourites to win rugby league’s Challenge Cup after thrashing Leeds in Sunday’s second semi-final. The Wolves scored eight tries in a 48-12 victory over the Rhinos to set up a clash with Catalans Dragons at Wembley on August 25th, after the French side shocked St Helens in the earlier last four match, storming into a 27-0 half time lead before withstanding a second-half fightback to win 35-16.
The finalists appear well matched, although Wolves finished the regular season eight points better off than the Dragons and beat them 26-0 in Perpignan early in the campaign. Supporters of the two clubs will have an early chance to gauge their prospects for the final in three weeks’ time when they meet in the opening round of the Super 8s at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday, four weeks after playing out a 22-22 draw at Warrington’s home ground.
Warrington have won the Challenge Cup on eight previous occasions, most recently in 2012, while Catalans have played in only one previous final, when they lost 30-8 to St Helens in 2007. The French outfit can be backed at best odds of 2/1* with Bet365 and BetVictor to get their hands on the trophy for the first time.
