Tiger Woods is best price 8/1* with Coral to be the top scoring American player at the Ryder Cup after earning his first victory in five years at the Tour Championship.
The 42-year-old was denied a $10m bonus when Justin Rose made a birdie on the final hole, but there were huge celebrations around the 18th green at East Lake when he confirmed his two-shot win and a return to the winner’s circle after career-saving back surgery.
It was the culmination of an impressive season for the former world number one, in which he finished sixth at The Open and second at the PGA Championship.
He began the week as the 14/1 sixth favourite to win the 30-man event in Atlanta, which he had previously won in 1999 and 2007.
Woods has never enjoyed the best of relationships with the Ryder Cup, but his performance over the weekend fully justified his selection for next weekend’s match at Le Golf National as one of captain Jim Furyk’s wildcard picks.
However, given his recent history of injuries it is doubtful that he will play more than once each day.
