The Premier League last week confirmed its first batch of televised matches for the forthcoming season, with Man United kicking things off on Friday August 10th as they host Leicester City at Old Trafford, live on Sky Sports.
Liverpool’s home game against West Ham has been switched to Sunday August 12th, while the first round of games concludes with Arsenal taking on champions Manchester City at the Emirates. With those first matches just a month away, it will be interesting to see just how much of an impact the World Cup has on the leading teams, with many top stars now guaranteed to still be in action in Russia until the weekend of the final and therefore not due back in training until just a few days before the domestic action resumes.
Tottenham have no fewer than eight players still competing for World Cup glory, while both City and United have seven. Chelsea have five representatives still in the competition, Liverpool have three and Arsenal have only one in Danny Welbeck. It will certainly hamper the pre-season preparations of Tottenham, City and United, potentially leading to some surprise results in the early weeks of the campaign.
