All you need to know about the carnival of football, Copa America
The top players in Europe may be concentrating on Euro 2024, but some of the best footballers in the world – including Neymar, Julián Álvarez and Richarlison – will be getting ready for the Copa America. The tournament is designed to find the best nation in South America and in 2024, it’s expected that Ecuador will host what promises to be a carnival of football.
With a host of high quality games crammed into just a month, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to place bets on the tournament – as well as on individual matches.
The competition has been running since 1916 and was originally called the South American Championship. Since its rebranding in 1975, the Copa America has seen some of the finest footballers in history represent their countries in an attempt to win the trophy.
Argentina and Uruguay are the most successful countries in the tournament’s history with 15 titles apiece. Brazil have been more successful of late, but it’s Argentina who are the defending Copa America champions.
Only two of the countries in South America have never won a Copa America – Ecuador and Venezuela – and they’re likely to be be outsiders in 2024 too.
As ever, Brazil and Argentina are considered to be favourites for Copa America 2024, but Colombia, Uruguay, and Chile will all feel that they have a chance of lifting the trophy as well. There are sure to be some shocks along the way so get ready for some top class football.
With so much talent on display, the Copa America promises to be full of excitement and the colour and noise of the fans is just a part of the celebration as the football on the pitch.
Ecuador are expected to host the 2024 Copa America and will hope to be inspired by their fans, having failed to reach the Copa America semi-finals since 1993.
The ten South American nations will be joined by at least two invited countries – Australia and Qatar had intended to play in 2021 before withdrawing – to make up three or four Copa America groups, with eight sides progressing to the knock-out stage.
The Copa America fixtures begin on 14th June 2024, with the final scheduled to take place on 12th July.
There will be plenty of options to place bets including player bets with markets such as the highest goal scorer – so there should be more than enough to choose from when it comes to making your selections on the Copa America 2024.
